Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami in Japan 2011

March 19, 2011 - Even in Bayside Arena, the biggest evacuation shelter, many displaced residents from the 3-11 tsunami, mostly elderly, had to struggle to find a place to lay themselves on the unoccupied spots. Ninety-five percent of the town was destroyed by the 2011 Japanese tsunami that followed the 2011 Tohuku earthquake. Only the tallest buildings remain and an estimated 9,500 people are missing, roughly half the population. 9,700 people are confirmed alive and evacuated.
